Round Rock is a growing and vibrant city that’s just north of Austin and offers its visitors and residents a wealth of historic sites and fun activities.
If you’ve decided to relocate to a new Round Rock apartment, or you’re a longtime resident interested in finding new places to hang with your family, here are a few suggestions.
Downtown Round Rock
The city of Round Rock doesn’t have a huge downtown area, but it does have a casual and fun downtown section that’s an excellent place for families.
According to Tour Texas:
“This small but thriving Downtown area is one-of-a-kind and charming. Don’t worry about parking or reservations; there is plenty of stress-free family fun for all ages. Casual, welcoming, and so laid-back, Downtown Round Rock may tempt you to kick off your shoes and join your kids in the interactive fountain.”
Even if you don’t have kids, a stroll through Downtown Round Rock is a lovely way to spend a warm summer evening when the weather calls for sandals, shorts, and t-shirts. You may also want to visit the nearby Koughan Memorial Water Tower Park, which is near downtown. The water tower is a landmark that was one of the original towers built by the town.
Brushy Creek Regional Trail & Neighborhood
Round Rock, Texas, is named for the large rock that sits in the middle of Brushy Creek. The rock allowed cattle and settlers with wagons to cross the creek around the time of the city’s founding in 1851. Today, the creek trail and its nearby neighborhood are a popular and historic place to visit in Round Rock.
According to the official website of Williamson County, which is where Round Rock is located, the creek trail has many amusements:
“The parks that lie along the trail provide many different amenities accessible to walkers, runners, and bikers. Together, the parks have a collaboration of splash pads, swimming areas, climbing rocks, fishing docks, canoeing and kayaking, restrooms, and multiple picnic and pavilion areas. The trail links residential communities, businesses, and retail centers and existing and proposed parks while promoting conservation and stewardship of open space, greenbelts, and wetlands.”
Helpfully, the official county website offers a PDF map for download, which can help guide your creekside adventures.
Old Settlers Park
Offering several festivals and events each year, Old Settlers Park is a terrific place for anything and everything outside. Not only is there a permanent water park for visitors, but there’s also a disc golf course, a volleyball court, and even a cricket field.
Enjoy the park area during a visiting festival or event, or head over on the weekend to the family aquatic center, the fishing pier, or the three miles of trails that wind through the park.
